The Aachen-born soprano Cathrin Lange, praised by the press for her "crystal-clear voice", her "sparkling coloraturas and radiant high notes" as well as for her "acting talent and intense acting", has developed in recent years into one of the most interesting and exciting singers in opera, as well as in concert and oratorio singing.
Many exciting projects await Cathrin Lange in the 2024/25 season. In addition to several song recitals, she will once again perform with the Bavarian Chamber Philharmonic, take on the role of First Lady in The Magic Flute in Kaiserslautern, sing a series of New Year's concerts with the Württemberg Philharmonic Reutlingen, make her debut in the Laeiszhalle Hamburg with a mass by Ethel Smyth for the 50th International Women's Day, and appear as a guest in the St. Matthew Passion in Hagen and at the Cologne Philharmonic.
In the 2023/24 season, Cathrin Lange sang the title role in the revival of La Traviata at the Staatstheater Darmstadt, as well as Blonde in The Abduction from the Seraglio at the Theater Bonn.
In spring 2023, she had a guest engagement at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, where she again sang the role of Miss Schlesen in Satyagraha by Philip Glass.
Further guest engagements have taken her to the Komische Oper Berlin, the Stuttgart State Opera, the Theater Basel, the Aalto Theater Essen, the Darmstadt State Opera, the Saarbrücken State Opera, the Linz State Theater, the Graz Opera, the Oldenburg State Theater, the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, the Ulm Theater and the Salzburg State Theater.
During her time in permanent engagements at the Staatstheater Darmstadt (2018-2023) and at the Theater Augsburg (2009-2018), she developed a broad opera repertoire, including the following roles: Violetta (La Traviata), Liù (Turandot), Gilda (Rigoletto), Olympia (The Tales of Hoffmann), Adina (L'Elisir d'Amore), Pamina and 1st Lady (The Magic Flute), Mélisande (Pelléas et Mélisande), Musetta (La Bohème), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Oscar (Masked Ball), Sandrina (La finta giardiniera), Blonde (The Abduction from the Seraglio), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Despina (Così fan tutte), Ännchen (Der Freischütz), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Adele (Die Fledermaus) and Eliza Doolittle (My Fair Lady).
She has worked with renowned conductors such as Stefan Soltesz, Jonathan Stockhammer, Giuseppe Finzi, Daniel Cohen, Domonkos Héja and Michael Hofstetter and directors such as Jan Philipp Gloger, Thorleifur Örn Arnasson, Immo Karaman, Sebastian Baumgarten, Ludger Engels, Peter Konwitschny and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.
Her concert repertoire includes A German Requiem by J.Brahms, Messiah by GFHändel, The Creation by J.Haydn, the 4th Symphony by G.Mahler, Lobgesang by F.Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Kaddish by L.Bernstein, the St. Matthew Passion by JSBach, the Requiem and the Coronation Mass by WAMozart, the Requiem by G.Fauré, Carmina Burana by C.Orff and the Mass of the Children by J.Rutter.
The artist sets further important accents in her work in the area of lieder singing. She pays particular attention to the German and French repertoire, for example with a portrait of the composer Cécile Chaminade.
Since 2019, Cathrin Lange has worked closely with the Bastian Walcher Quartet. The first CD "Arias, Jazz and Cinnamon Stars" promises a Christmas crossover of baroque music and jazz. The new CD "Arias in blue" was released in 2024.
In 2017, Cathrin Lange was nominated for the Austrian Music Theater Award for Best Female Supporting Role for her role as the Blonde. In 2014, she was awarded the Bavarian Art Promotion Prize in the "Performing Arts" category. In 2012, she received the Augsburg Theater Prize in the "Music Theater" category.
